Important things to keep in mind when marrying in Mauritius

One of the most important requirements for any religious wedding in Mauritius is that you need to be already legally married. If this is not the case, you could get civilly married in Mauritius the day before your religious ceremony.

In any case the civil wedding will have to be no older than 6 weeks prior to the wedding date.

The preparation time between your decision to wed in Mauritius and your wedding ceremony is key to its success. Usually, we will suggest that formalities are initiated well in advance, between 4 – 6 months prior to the saved date. Getting all the paperwork done the right way, including legal translations, will generally take most of that preparatory period. There is also the need to find and book the right location, the relevant officiant, and the right event design for your religious ceremony.

Types of wedding Ceremonies

Classic Ceremony

Although simple, the classic wedding ceremony in Mauritius can be elegant and luxurious. In fact, you can technically pronounce your wedding oaths on a beautiful beach, in an exotic garden, in a prestigious colonial house, in a small traditional church or even on a luxurious rooftop.

Asian/ Indian Ceremony

Several steps make such ceremonies magical. One of them being the moment when the bridal mehendi, Henna, is applied to the bride’s hands and feet, symbolizing the start of a new life in the Indian belief.

In an Asian/ Indian ceremony, the stage setup and flowers are of great symbolic importance. There is, for instance, the garland exchange which signifies mutual acceptance.

In any case, the wedding ceremony will be conducted by an Indian Priest and all the rituals around the event will be left to the family to arrange for.
